Health Promotion

CFB Winnipeg’s Health Promotion is here to help members of our community be their best version of themselves. Whether it is by taking one of our courses or briefings or joining us in one of our out of classroom activities we hope to make the healthy choice the easy choice.

Our courses and workshops are free to all members of the Defense Team and their adult family members. They are preventative in nature and provide you with the tools you need to lead healthy lives. These courses fall under 4 core areas: Social Wellness, Nutritional Wellness, Addictions Free Living and Active Living/Injury Prevention. The full catalogue of our courses is offered at least once every quarter.

When not in the classroom, Health Promotion is working with the military community and our CFMWS partners to offer programming/activities that support health & wellness. This includes visiting units, completing health & wellness audits, championing inclusive environments, infrastructure projects to promote active living, and working with messes to provide low-risk drink options.

Wishing you all a happy and healthy 2026!

2026 will bring about significant changes in Health Promotion as Diane Brine will be retiring at the of January. After 15 years working with Health Promotion, she has decided to spend more time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She will still be around occasionally volunteering with us.

As well, Sam Kemplay’s term position ends at the end of December. We want to thank him and wish him well. You will still see him at the mess as he has taken a part time position as administrative assistant joining Owen, Khristin and Dani. With Sam leaving, we are welcoming back Montanna Coad as our administrative assistant. Montanna has been on deployment in Latvia for the last 6 months.  Our office reopens 5 Jan.

There is still time to join the CFB Winnipeg Wellness Challenge.  Click here 17-wing-wellness-challenge | Voxair for more information and for the Race Roster registration link.  Entries from the December hydration challenge will be accepted until 9 Jan.  In January the challenge is to track each day that you achieved 30 min or more of moderate to high intensity physical activity.  Moderate intensity means you can talk but not easily sing during the activity.  You can accumulate the 30 min in smaller bouts of activity or do it all at once.  We are not looking for perfection; participation prizes will be drawn at the end of each monthly challenge and at the end of the entire challenge in May.  Units will be awarded for top participation after the conclusion in May.

We hope you can join us on 28 Jan for the annual Let’s Talk event.  This year we are pleased to present internationally recognized public educator, Julie Lalonde who will present "I've got your back: Bystander intervention to build community care" followed by a Q & A session in the Netherlands Theatre from 1000-1130 hrs on 28 Jan.  Come early or stay afterwards to check out the Helping Professionals Showcase.
