17 Wing Curling Team Triumphs at CAF Sports Canada West Championship

Our team recently competed in the CAF Sports Canada West Curling Championship, hosted by 15 Wing Moose Jaw, and what an incredible experience it was! The tournament brought together strong competition from 10 different bases across Western Canada, creating an atmosphere of skill, sportsmanship, and camaraderie. Every team came prepared to deliver their best game on the ice, and the level of play was nothing short of outstanding.

One of the most memorable moments of the event was our rematch against Cold Lake. Earlier in the round robin, they handed us a tough loss, which only fueled our determination to come back stronger. The stage was set for an exciting final, and our team rose to the challenge. With focus, resilience, and teamwork, we secured the win in the championship match! It was a hard-fought victory and a true testament to the dedication and skill of our players.

Beyond the competition, the championship offered something even more valuable—connection. Meeting and networking with teams from across the CAF community reminded us that these events are about more than just winning. They’re about sharing strategies, exchanging stories, and building lasting relationships that strengthen our collective spirit. The sense of camaraderie and mutual respect was evident both on and off the ice.

We are incredibly proud of this achievement and grateful for the opportunity to represent 17 Wing on such a prestigious stage. A heartfelt thank you goes out to everyone who supported us along the way—especially our families and Chains of Command. Your encouragement and flexibility made it possible for us to compete, and we couldn’t have done it without you.

Congratulations to our outstanding team:

  • Skip: WO Ryan Legace, CJCR HQ

  • Third: Capt Paul Neilands, RCSU Northwest

  • Second: MCpl Derek Stevenson, RCAF Band

  • Lead: Capt Rob Keaveney, 17 Wing Comptroller

This victory is a reflection of teamwork, perseverance, and pride in representing our Wing. We look forward to future opportunities to compete, connect, and continue building the strong bonds that make the CAF community exceptional.
