February is “I Love to Read Month,” and the Military Family Resource Centre (MFRC) marked the occasion with a special story time at the Nursery School on February 23, 2026, made even more memorable by the participation of 17 Wing/CFB Winnipeg leaders.

Colonel Jody Hanson and Chief Warrant Officer Richard Pierre Rousseau brought stories to life for the morning class. CWO Rousseau had the children engaged with his reading of “Bear’s Loose Tooth” by Karma Wilson and Jane Chapman, while Col. Hanson kept everyone interested with “Llama Llama Red Pajama” by Anna Dewdney.

Executive Director Allison Payne joined in the morning, further demonstrating the MFRC’s commitment to supporting families and nurturing a love of reading from an early age.

The involvement of 17 Wing leadership highlights the Wing’s dedication to building strong community connections and championing early literacy. Their participation sent a powerful message about the importance of sharing stories and reading together as a military community.

As “I Love to Read Month” continues, the MFRC encourages the entire 17 Wing community to keep the joy of reading alive well beyond February.
