At 9.30 am on Wednesday, 30 September 2026, thousands of Manitobans gathered at the Oodena Circle at The Forks, Winnipeg, to observe the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and honour the memories of victims of residential schools and their families.

Speeches were delivered by Indigenous leaders, community representatives, and elected officials. Thereafter, participants took part in the annual Healing Walk, which proceeded from The Forks through downtown Winnipeg to the Canada Life Centre. A significant number of members of the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) participated in the observance and Healing Walk alongside members of the broader Winnipeg community.

Senior military leaders in attendance included Brigadier-General Daniel Coutts, Commander, 2 Canadian Air Division, Colonel Curtis Wright, Commander, 17 Wing and Colonel Evelyn Kötzer, Commander, 38 Canadian Brigade Group. Their presence underscored the CAF's ongoing dedication to learning from Canada's shared history, honouring Survivors and their families, and supporting meaningful reconciliation efforts.

By standing alongside Indigenous communities and Canadians from all walks of life, CAF members contributed to a day of remembrance and learning while also demonstrating their commitment to fostering respectful relationships with Indigenous Peoples across Canada.
