Canadian Western Region Shines at CAF National Golf Championship

From 23 to 27 August 2026, the Canadian Armed Forces National Golf Championship brought together some of the finest military golfers from across the country for a week of competitive play, teamwork, and professional networking. Representing the Canadian Western Region (Can-West) were six male and three female athletes, all competing with pride and determination against strong regional teams from across Canada.

The championship began with a challenging opening round that tested competitors both mentally and physically. Following Day 1, the Can-West men's team found themselves trailing the leaders by only a few strokes, keeping themselves firmly within striking distance. Meanwhile, the Can-West women's team delivered a strong performance and found themselves near the top of the standings.

Day 2 proved equally demanding as golfers battled intense heat, humidity, and long hours on the course. Rising to the challenge, the Can-West men's team mounted an impressive comeback, closing the gap and finishing the day only 12 strokes behind the leaders. The women's team continued their steady and consistent play, ending the second day just one stroke off first place and setting the stage for an exciting final round.

The final day brought overcast skies and the threat of rain, with intermittent misty showers adding another layer of difficulty to the competition. Despite the challenging conditions, the Can-West women's team showcased exceptional focus and resilience. Their efforts paid off as they captured the National Championship Gold Medal, finishing two strokes ahead of Team Ontario.

The Can-West men's team also delivered a strong finish, earning the Bronze Medal after three competitive days of golf. Their perseverance and determination throughout the tournament demonstrated the depth of talent within the region and reflected the high standard of athletic excellence found across the Canadian Armed Forces.

While medals and standings marked the competitive success of the week, the championship was about much more than golf. The event provided an opportunity for CAF members from across Canada to reconnect with familiar faces, build new friendships, and strengthen professional relationships. The connections made both on and off the course contribute to the strong sense of community that exists throughout the Canadian Armed Forces.

Your dedication, sportsmanship, and commitment to excellence made this year's event a tremendous success.
