ree

WINNIPEG, Man. – Lance Corporal Ariela Iyawe of 49 JT Cornwell VC, Royal Canadian Sea Cadet Corps, assists team members in zeroing their rifles during the biathlon competition held at 17 Wing Winnipeg, October 19, 2025.

Biathlon is a sport that combines physical fitness with marksmanship skills through a combination of the two activities. To ensure activities are flexible and accessible, biathlon within the Regional Cadet Support Unit (Northwest) is conducted as a run and shoot utilizing the Daisy 853C Air Rifle.

“To be successful, I’m going to run really hard and shoot straight,” shared Master Bombardier Tyren Carey, a third-year cadet with 2502 1RCHA, Royal Canadian Army Cadet Corps.

“This biathlon competition was an excellent opportunity for cadets to put their physical fitness and marksmanship to the test against their peers from across Manitoba. The cadets who participated earned their way by competing in a prior qualifying event in the spring. The fall weekend featured more challenging individual and team races. I am proud to say all who attended rose to that challenge and performed well,” said Captain Blake Minaker, Regional Training Officer.
